چکیده

OBJECTIVES Septicaemia (blood poisoning) is one of the chief sources global morbidity and mortality in pediatric patients presents with multidrug extensive drug resistance. This study aims to detect major causative agents, antimicrobial susceptibility patterns associated factors bacteraemia among patients.METHODOLOGY retrospective cross-sectional was done at National Medical Center, Karachi microbiology laboratory. Clinical specimens consist blood. Blood samples were processed BACTEC's automated blood culture system, positive sub-cultured on blood, Mac-Conkey. Final identification by API 20E 20NE (Biomerieux) confirmed MicroScan (Beckman coulter)®. The performed using Bauer– Kirby disk diffusion method.RESULTS A total 395 taken study. Out these patients, 226 (57.2 %) female. children age 1-4 years highly affected. Almost 50% handled emergency transferred for admission. 36.2% exposed intravenous devices. 89 (22.5%) had a history prolonged use antibiotics. Most pneumonia presented septicemia as complication, detected Klebsiella (35.4%), Acinetobacter bauminii (25.3%) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (20.3%). CONCLUSION revealed that gram-negative organisms are predominant septicaemia. Antibiotic resistance Carbapenem gradually increased case Escherichia coli. These issues can be overcome early detection microorganisms establishing antibiotic stewardship.
